surfinghippo

Report from Thompson's Beach, Ballito, South Africa: ...The parks board have Been tracking his movements, believed to be from Richards Bay, the Hippo has been making its way down south. The last hippo to be this Adventurous was HUBERTA THE HIPPO she wondered for 3 years crossing 1600km through South Africa. She crossed roads and railways and Trampled over golf courses. She munched her way through parks and Gardens and even popped up in cities and towns. The Zulu people were Allegedly convinced that she had some connection to King Shaka because Of the amount of time that she had spent in one of his former sacred Pools. In March 1931 Huberta reached East London after crossing 122 Rivers and was spotted sleeping on the main railway line. April 1931, 3 hunters shot her as she was having a dip in the Keiskamma River. So Hopefully it does not happen again. I did speak to Lionel the Ballito Parks board manager. His concern now was that the hippo didn't have Any more foraging sources and clashes with humans might be a problem As it heads closer to DBN.

The Daily Mail has a story about it here.

More on UV cure resins

In-house R&D specialist Fred Bauld shares some of the benefits of the ultraviolet, solar cure resins used on Country Feeling surfboards:

• Reduces volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions resulting in decreased air pollution
• Reduces worker exposure to hazardous emissions
• No chemical catalyst like MEKP is required
• Curing is not temperature-dependent
• Speeds up the curing processes and reduces production time
• Reduces resin waste: Some manufacturers have gone from 80 boards per drum of resin to 120 boards per drum of resin using UV-curing resins.
• Can be captured and reused
• Reduces damages from hardened resin in work areas, most noticeably work floors
• Will not cure on tools, thereby reducing cleaning costs

Feed your garden

It's easy to compost, as Grist columnist Umbra Fisk suggests:

"If you're not up for becoming a worm farmer, other food composter choices run the gamut from a glorified bucket with holes to a hard plastic capsule on a spit. For example, you can buy a galvanized trash can, drill small holes in it for drainage, and bury the bottom about a foot below ground. Simply throw food in it until it fills up, then neglect it for 10 months or so. Presto: compost."

Lots of composting options like this Garden Gourmet bin are available here.
